Dermal Fillers

Cosmetic aging may occur long before you're ready to consider plastic surgery procedures. While it's not possible to stop the changes that occur with age, there are many ways to deal with them as they develop. By and large, injectables seem to be the most common form of intervention.

Dermal Filler injections are an incredible non-surgical way to create facial contour, improve fine lines and assist with skin laxity. Dermal fillers can address a wide range of facial needs including volume loss creating a refreshed and lifted look. Bruising and swelling is an expected side effect usually resolving in few days. Result are usually immediate but can take several weeks to settle for full effect. Dermal fillers have been shown to last 9 month to 2 years based on the individual. At Seattle beauty we offer an array of different dermal filler brands based on individual assessment. Most commonly we use dermal fillers in the lips, chin, cheeks, Nasolabial folds, Neck and décolleté.

How Do Neurotoxin Injections Work?

Neurotoxins are also referred to as neuromodulators. BOTOX® is the most well-known neuromodulator at this time. It's been in use for more than 20 years, so we understand how it works, how long it lasts, and how safe it is. This product, as well as others made after it, is used to correct dynamic wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing the muscles that form them. These lines form when you move certain muscles to make specific facial expressions. The repetitive use causes the muscles to tighten and pull on the skin. Injecting target muscles with a neurotoxin prevents the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter involved in muscle contraction. Within a few days of this injectable treatment, dynamic wrinkles start to smooth out and remain that way for an extended period.
Common uses for neurotoxins include:

  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines
  • Descending brow line
  • Crow's feet
  • Horizontal lines at the bridge of the nose (bunny lines)
  • Platysma bands on the neck

How Long do The Results of Neurotoxin Injections Last?

Every situation is unique. That said, the average amount of time for wrinkle-smoothing results is three to four months. There is a possibility that your body may break down the product more quickly. There's also a chance your results may last beyond four months. It can be helpful to note when the treated area begins to show signs of aging once again. At that time, you can schedule a quick touch-up treatment to maintain your more youthful appearance.

How do Dermal Fillers Work?

Like neurotoxins, dermal fillers are used to correct the signs of aging. These products can also erase lines and creases, particularly those around the nose and mouth. While used to treat wrinkles, dermal fillers do this differently than a neurotoxin. In this case, the dermal filler is injected beneath the crease in the skin to plump it up to the surface. Most dermal fillers work via hyaluronic acid. This naturally-occurring chemical serves a few functions in the body. In addition to lubricating joints and the eyes, it is integral to holding moisture in the skin. Hyaluronic acid works by binding to water molecules. This happens immediately upon injection, so you get to see your results right away!

Common uses for dermal fillers include:

  • Forehead lines
  • Narrowing at the temples
  • Undereye bags
  • Poorly contoured cheeks
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Smile lines
  • Jowls
  • Fine lines around the mouth
  • Deflated or thin lips
  • Aging hands

Several different soft tissue fillers are available today. Some of the most well-known include products in the Juvederm® and Restylane® families. Your provider at Seattle Beauty can help you determine which dermal filler is best suited to your needs.
